How do I avoid the duplicate content penalty?

It can be an enticing solution to a costly problem. You need content to draw searchers to your web site, but who has the time and money to write all that new copy? Isn’t it easier to “borrow” content from other sites and change it just enough to avoid the “duplicate content penalty?” Yes, it is most certainly easier. And quicker. But it’s also illegal and has the minor drawback that it doesn’t work. If you’ve been toying with this strategy or need to fight off others at your company who are proposing it, check out my latest article on Search Engine Guide, “How do I avoid the duplicate content penalty?”

Nice Article. But what if 2 people write content for their own website and most of that content is same then what will search engine do??

I can’t stand it when others have obviously duplicated my content. This has happened to me only on one occasion where I emailed the web master. Thankfully he conformed within a couple of days.
Thanks for this article, this topic needs to be magnified to a greater extent to as many web masters as possible.

Thanks for linking the parent article here. I had a lingering thought of doing something like this a few months ago but was told of the penalty that you mention. Guess they were right.

Hi Bidding,
Chances are that two people will approach the ideas differently and use different language, so there shouldn’t be any problem.

There are so many contradicting theories about duplicate content and the so called “penalty”. Some say it is a myth and others say that google purposely says that it is a myth so that they can identify scammers who steal others content and penalize them.
I’m confused!
