Some of you know that I’ve been working in text analysis technology for over 20 years. I started out working on search technology, spent time in news analysis, text categorization, and a few other things. But one of the most interesting applications of text analysis is sentiment analysis–the ability for computers to understand the tone, be it positive or negative, of the conversations all over the Internet. That is really really interesting. Strange enough people often get it wrong…. I know when I’m frustrated by someone and I read an email, I read it to mean the worst possible thing.
