You see it on the Web every day. A tantalizing case study or white paper that is yours to read for free, as long as you are willing to give up your e-mail address to see it. To some, it feels like a gun pointed to their head, and they are being asked supply the bullets. Sure, that marketer is building a mailing list, but is that the best way to do marketing?     Personally I feel you are more likely to allienate people by forcing them to register for a download than you are to convert them.
