Facebook and Privacy: Not Friends

There is a lot of talk about the Facebook privacy policy that has been handed down from Mt. Zuckerberg along with the tablets. The talk is not positive. Why? Well, it likely has something to do with the great Facebook sell-out of its dedicated users. In the sales world it is known that a “bait and switch” approach to selling is ineffective at best, and sleazy at worst. So where on that scale does the new privacy policies of Facebook fall? Well for me, I can only say, “Disappointing.”

Full disclosure to the FTC: We think our clients are great

I’m still struggling with the whole full disclosure thing from the FTC. It’s not that I disagree with it–in fact, I think I have been following their guidelines all along. But now I feel like I really need to watch myself or I’m going to jail. All this was brought to mind when Mashable featured the work that Converseon client Telstra did to publicize its social media guidelines with an interactive learning module .

I have gotten feedback over the years that some of you really want to take new steps in Internet marketing (“I swear I do, really”), but don’t know how to get started. Selling Search to the C-Suite

Some of you have probably tried to sell your C-level executives on the importance of search marketing. You started out all excited about keywords and rankings and page views and bids and copy and then…you are greeted by that fantastic blank stare that suggests what your exec is really thinking about: “When can I get back to what I care about?” You might be wondering why how someone as successful as your CEO could NOT be interested in search. So I am sorry to break it to you, but that blank stare really does say it all. Your CEO couldn’t care less about search. The real question is what you are going to do about it.
